Can you tell us about your career?
I am lawyer specialised in the business law area in Prado & Llorens, with a postgraduate degree in corporate law. I mostly take care of commercial, corporate and labour conflicts. I give legal advice on agreements and contracts: distribution contracts, business collaboration, mergers and acquisitions, and finance law, among other themes.
What do you like the most about Argentina?
Argentina is a country bursting with opportunities. It is a place with great cultural diversity and many contrasts. It is a country with a lot to offer and this, for a lawyer, implies a very interesting challenge and continuous learning, especially in the business law area. It is pleasant to be able to effectively answer the demands of our worldwide clients.
As a lawyer in Argentina it is important to focus on conflict prevention and settle the existing ones as soon as possible. Our lawfirm was founded in 1984, and our clients are still working with us since then. We have built together a strong trust bond with very positive results.
What is the biggest challenge in Argentina at the moment?
It is necessary to be prepared to prevent conflicts at the right time and, if they happen, to settle them with the least amount of resources as possible. This is one of the most important challenges of professional practice in Argentina: to prevent conflicts efficiently and to be skilled enough to solve them prematurely and out of court.
The growing economy in Argentina has opened the door to a lot of foreign investors in the last decade, which requires our dedicated efforts to deal with consultations from our clients, primarily in the business area. The current cycle is significantly favourable to develop business in Argentina, and for those to be successful it is essential to know the country’s legislation.
For a lawyer, it is important to identify and analyse these business opportunities. We are now facing political changes, so it is important to understand them. You must always be up-to-date in order to give proper legal advice.
Do you have a big international activity?
Yes, we have the pleasure of working with colleagues abroad. These have always been very rewarding experiences. After thirteen years, we have built a strong contact network with the Eurojuris members. We now consider them our friends.
We are proud to be the first lawfirm outside Europe to join the network, back in 2002. Also, it was a huge honor for our lawfirm to receive the best international commitment award in 2008, but, above all, our best memories are from the dealings with our colleagues from the Eurojuris Network.
There is a huge globalisation process under way, and a lawyer should always be aware of this. The network allows small and medium law firms to work internationally and compete on an equal basis with the biggest ones, thus the clients can get the best legal service.
What advice would you give to a younger lawyer starting his career today?
Young lawyers should be prepared for great commitment and hard effort. They must work with integrity and respect for their ethical convictions, always looking for the best protection of their clients’ rights.
What is your best piece of advice to lawyers who would like to work in/with Argentina?
First and most important: they are always welcome here. Besides that, they must know that the legal practice in Argentina requires a great deal of effort and the biggest reward here is to know that you have helped your client.
