What you missed in Prague

What you missed in Prague

Eurojuris International Autumn Congress was held last month in beautiful Prague.  The occasion for number of our members to gather and meet again in a pleasant atmosphere.

On Thursday 13th October, the congress kicked-off with a meeting of our Board members followed by a dinner at Café Imperial.  The following day, on 14th October, the General Assembly appointed new Board members : Judith Adam-Caumeil from Paris and Robert Wollweber from Frankfurt.  Former President Niels Eriksen and Pietro Bembo both took this opportunity to stepp down from their function in order to pursue new challenges.

Our International Business Group (IBG) had their meeting followed by the presentation of the IBG Guide “How to expend your business across borders” including new contributions and personalised printing.  Four members of HLB International ( world-wide network of independent accounting firms and business advisers) participated to the meeting, the occasion to focus on deepening our network’s opportunities and a special event organisation will actually be hosted by IBB Solicitors next spring in Lisbon.  Finally, our Corporate Law group gathered in a joint session with International Litigation and ADR  organised under the leadership of Joachim Asendorf and Thierry Clerc., International Trade Transport & Insurance Law and the Intellectual Property group met under the supervision of Gilad Berman and François Herpe to visit the Skoda Museum.  Real Estate & Insolvency group also met in a joint session at Unicredit where members attended a presentation from Mr. Prochazka, Head of Real Estate Financing.  This very busy day ended with a pleasant dinner at Mlynec Restaurant.

Saturday 15th October, was dedicated to single Practice Groups meetings and was followed by the highly expected football match where members had great fun as usual.  A final buffet dinner was organised at Pilsen Hall and was followed by an award ceremony bringing light on the great achievements of some of our members.  Proksch & Partners from Vienna and IFL Avocats from Paris/Rouen were both presented a Commitment Award while Best Website Award was given to Janssen & Associés from Belgium and Best National Stand Award went to Eurojuris UK.

The congress was also a fantastic opportunity for new members to mingle with a very diverse audience and get a first glimpse at our network in close up.  New member Stefan Holub from Holubova in Prague cannot hide his satisfaction : “I really enjoyed attending this congress, participated to the Corporate Law PG, loved its practical approach.  I also met similarly minded lawyers, it was pleasant and I thought the organisation was perfect”.

Luiz Augusto Azevedo from Almeida Prado e Hoffmann in Sao Paulo & Rio was also a guest at this event.  Here’s what he had to say : “I enjoyed the great organisation, the existence of practice groups and the relationship between members.  I took part in the Corporate Law PG and thought it was really interesting”.

The last word goes to our newly appointed President, Michael Proksch : “Personally, I believe this congress was one of the best congresses we’ve had with plenty of great networking opportunities.  I just regret there was no main theme or area of focus.  We’ll try and work on it for the next one in  Lisbon”.
